GRADUATE UNIVERSITY STUDIES IN COMMUNICATION SCIENCE
In brief!
Academic title: Master of Communication Science (mag. comm.)
Duration of studies: 4 semesters
Completion of studies: a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, passing of all exams and thesis defence presentation
In addition to common basic courses, the students take groups of courses enabling them to acquire more detailed and comprehensive knowledge, develop the required competences and skills in journalism and public relations. For this reason, the students can choose between the two programmes offered: Intercultural Communication and Journalism or Scientific Research of the Media and Public Relations.
After the 2nd semester, students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the concrete requirements of their profession through their cooperation and work with media houses and other institutions.
In each semester, students enrol in compulsory and elective courses (a minimum of 30 ECTS credits).
As a rule, the students’ work in all courses is evaluated throughout the semester through periodic tests (preliminary exams, tests) and based on activities at lectures, seminars and exercises (account for 70% of the final mark) and the final exam (accounts for 30% of the final mark). This model encourages students to study regularly and master the teaching material.

What are you going to learn?
Graduate university studies in Communication Science enable students to acquire skills and professional knowledge required for efficient communication in different fields, as well as their further development as scholars. A prerequisite for successful communication in the globalised world of today is knowledge about different cultures, social and communication processes, new media systems, and an aptitude in carrying out scientific research. Based on the results obtained from the research, the students can then manage communication and public relations in different fields.
What can you do after your studies?
After completing graduate studies, students are qualified to design media programmes and projects and work as journalists (printed and agency journalists, radio and TV journalists, on-line journalists) and in public relations.
After completing graduate studies, students fulfil the conditions to enrol in postgraduate university (doctoral) studies.
