Rektor Hrvatskoga katoličkog sveučilišta prof. dr. sc. Željko Tanjić boravio je zajedno s dr. sc. Stjepom Bartulicom, voditeljem Studentskog informacijskog središta od 11. do 21. veljače 2012. u Sjedinjenim Američkim Državama, gdje je osim nekoliko katoličkih sveučilišta, posjetio urede Američke biskupske konferencije kao i ured jednog zastupnika Kongresa SAD-a te se susreo i s nekoliko vodećih američkih katoličkih intelektualaca, poput Georga Weigela i Roberta Royala.

Vođeni su razgovori u Berkley centru Sveučilišta Georgetown, najstarijeg katoličkog sveučilištu u SAD-u, kao i na Catholic University of America, sveučilištu Fordham u New Yorku te sveučilištu Notre Dame u South Bendu. Američki partneri su izrazili spremnost za suradnju s HKS-om na znanstvenom planu, u razvoju studijskih programa, te u razmjeni studenata i profesora.

Rektor se također susreo s glavnim rabinom Park East Sinagoge Arthurom Schneierom u New Yorku te s Esther Gitman, autoricom knjige “Kada hrabrost prevlada” koja je nedavno prevedena na hrvatski jezik.

Tijekom boravka su održani i brojni susreti sa članovima hrvatske zajednice u SAD-u, prije svega u Washingtonu, New Yorku i Chicagu, koji su pokazali veliko zanimanje za ovaj važan projekt u hrvatskom narodu i Crkvi. Veliku zaslugu u organizaciji ovog uspješnog posjeta imale su naše katoličke zajednice u tim gradovima na čelu s njihovim svećenicima, don Dubravkom Turalijom, fra Nikolom Pašalićem i fra Jozom Grbešom.

Isto tako, Hrvatsko katoličko sveučilište je nedavno osnovalo zakladu “The Croatian Educational Fund” kao novu ustanovu za promicanje razvoja HKS-a čije je djelovanje i službeno započelo prilikom ovoga posjeta.

——— The Rector of CUC dr. Željko Tanjić and dr. Stephen Bartulica, head of student and public relations, visited the United States from February 11 to 21st, where they met with colleagues at several Catholic universities, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), with staff of Congressman Elton Gallegly, as well as with prominent Catholic intellectuals George Weigel (Ethics and Public Policy Center) and Robert Royal (Faith and Reason Institute). Meetings took place at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs at Georgetown University, the oldest Catholic University in the U.S., at the Catholic University of America, Fordham University in New York City, as well as the University of Notre Dame in South Bend. The American partners expressed their readiness to collaborate with CUC in the field of academics and exchange of students and faculty. Rector Tanjić also met with Arthur Schneier, the Head Rabbi of the Park East Synagague, in New York City and Esther Gitman, author of When Courage Prevailed, recently published in Croatian. During the visit, several meetings were held with members of the Croatian community in the U.S., notably in Washington DC, New York City and Chicago. Special thanks goes to Fr. Dubravko Turalija, Fr. Nikola Pašalić and Fr. Jozo Grbeš for their hospitality during the visit. Finally, CUC recently launched the operations of a new foundation – The Croatian Educational Fund – established as an institution dedicated to facilitating the development of CUC.
